In addition to our weekly rehearsals we have visiting instrumentalists and singers, both professional and amateur, concertos played by orchestra members, Come and Sing sessions and sectionals. There are also conducting workshops for music students seeking to hone their conducting skills.
In February 2016 we held a 'Come and Sing' event to perform selected extracts from Handel's Messiah The choir rehearsed in the morning and the event culminated in a performance with orchestra in the afternoon. It was a great success, greatly enjoyed by all who took part, and certain to be followed similar events.
On the occasion of Will Carslake's last day, the Double Bass section entertain the orchestra wth a rendition of 'Bye, Bye, Blackbird'.
The orchestra members take part in a large number of activities to allow extended time playing together. These include Ashridge Days when we spend a day at the Ashridge Business Centre playing in a wonderful environment and enjoying a good lunch and Away Weekends which involve a whole weekend of playing and gives the opportunity for more indepth discussions. At the end of the summer term there is a joint session with SARO Winds members followed by lunch.
10th Anniversary Celebration, March 2012, spent at the Ashridge Buisiness Centre with current and past members.
Our second House Party weekend was held at the end of February, enjoying the opportunity to play music and relax in the Sussex countryside. Having the very talented violinist En Yuan join us on the Sunday to play the Scheherazade was much appreciated. It was the combined efforts of many members which worked to make it such a successful weekend.
