Liverpool-born conductorMatthew Hardyholds the Frank Shipway Scholarship in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal College of Music, where he is in the first year of the Masters programme. He previously studied classical trumpet at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
As well as SARO Matthew works with a number of other ensembles in and around London. He founded East London Music Group, his own professional ensemble, in 2015. As its artistic director and conductor he has presided over a number of successful performances and educational projects, including Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale, and William Walton's Façade.
Matthew is also currently the musical director of East London Community Band and the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of North London. Recent freelance work has included the Minehead and Exmoor Music Festival Orchestra, Trinity Laban Junior Department Wind Orchestra, Imperial College Orchestra coaching, and Pigotts Music Camp.
Other ensembles of which he has been musical director in recent years are University of the Arts London Orchestra, Imperial College Medics’ Choir, UCL Concert Band, and Barts and the London Medical School Choir.
Matthew is a committed educator and has worked as a coach and brass teacher for, among others, Queen Mary University, Bromley Youth Music Trust and Pro Corda Youth Chamber Orchestra.
